Occupying a prime position overlooking the Ashgrove Golf Course links, Zegatos Steak and Pasta Cafe epitomises dining out with modern Australian cuisine in the leafy Brisbane suburb of The Gap. Very much a family-friendly restaurant, and it’s also the obvious choice for a meal before or after a round of golf.

Chef Tony Davis is famed for his steakhouse specialties – slow-cooked beef ribs, MSA steaks – but also the weekday family specials like Wednesday’s affordable pasta night (go for the sand crab ravioli), discounted rump steaks on Tuesdays, and cheap-as-chips gourmet pizzas fired up in the traditional oven on Thursdays.

Located on Waterworks Road but secluded and peaceful, Zegatos serves Ashgrove and The Gap locals well – be sure to book.



Chef T began his journey as an apprentice Chef in New Zealand (we won’t hold that against him) at The Park Royal, Christchurch. He then moved onto Wanaka Edgewater Resort where he was a heli-ski instructor by day and Chef by night.

After his time as a ski bunny/Chef, Tony moved to the city of Pineapples and Banana Benders where he opened the well-known Il Centro Restaurant. He did such a great job there that Brett’s Wharf commissioned him to open their seafood restaurant around 1995.

Tony was an Executive Chef for some of Brisbane’s best restaurants including FIX Restaurant, Port Office Hotel, Cafe San Marco, Southbank, just to name a few.

Chef T put his culinary skills to the test in 2000 and won the QLD Chef of the Year and ranked 3rd as the QLD representative for a Pork Australia competition.


On a personal note, Tony has lived in The Gap for over 12 years with his boys Jayden and Jai and his gorgeous partner Margie.

Surprisingly Chef T doesn’t play golf but loves to cycle instead, Mountain Biking in particular at The Gap Reserve.

Approached by Ashgrove Golf Club in 2013, Tony opened Zegatos with the support of the directors. He continues to deliver excellent service and superior meals to The Gap and surrounds.

About the role:

  • You will work a variety of shifts lunch and dinner only (not including Mondays when we are closed)
  • Running our front of house, ensuring customers are seated and cared for in a respectful and timely manner
  • Using a point of sales systems (POS) for UberEats orders
  • Communicating with the Head Chef regarding orders, including takeaways and UberEats
  • Making coffees
  • Keeping the front of restaurant tidy and clean
  • May be involved with setting rosters for other wait staff

“Sitting here at the Ashgrove Golf Club with a beautiful meal especially prepared by the chef. Not only is he a coeliac too but was very open to my other food issues - low fodmap, low histamine diet plus allergies ie chili, black pepper and so the list goes on. Sand crab lasagna - Tony you have still got it. We just polished off the sand crab lasagna and it was just as good if not better from years ago at Il Centro. Well done we totally enjoyed it. Spot on catering. Tony catered savouries and club sandwiches for my father's live streamed funeral today. Being kiwis, we wanted the traditional kiwi fillings in the sandwiches. Tony made it easy and smooth. Food was organised in stackable containers in the fridge with directions for heating the savouries.

Every kiwi that came had a trip down memory lane with the sandwiches from childhood and the savouries were well appreciated. Thank you. Can highly recommend.”
